  1. For Steve,
(the first and worst poem I ever composed).

    Ode To Steve Nelson

When Steve Nelson speaks his mind
    Never sound his words unkind.
    Though sophist’s spoutings do abound
Only kindly wisdom would he sound.

His chuckles fall like sparkling dew
On us who now with honor pay his due,
Blessed the children he will teach,
They will find the Morning Star in reach.

His bouyancy will lift them up
On meat not fluff they’ll amply sup.
Their little hands forward press him with a nudge
When the mighty King of Heaven comes to judge.

The halls of SQPN will sure resound
When Maria, Captain Jeff and Will redound
With strains of Oklahoma’s son do sound
And cheerful voices toasting call “another round”!

God bess you all at SQPN for all your work and wittness!
    Eve Bergez

  2. Steve, you will be greatly missed on Catholic Weekend! I suspect that you think that is not the case, but your sense of humor and fun are nicely balanced by your gentleness. You are a true gentleman: intelligent, patient (you’d have to be on CW), kind, and an incredible witness to Catholic faith and service. I hope you are blessed by your time in New Guinea, as I know they will be blessed to have you!

  3. I didn’t know about Dave Brubeck’s faith and Mass settings. Being a huge jazz fan, I don’t think I’d like that at Mass, but would love to listen to it in my own prayer time. Thanks for letting us know.
